Brad Pitt being in town might've overshadowed a charity event in a village in south-west England but he's donated more than $1000 to make up for it.

The Fight Club star was in Lulworth to shoot scenes for the post-apocalyptic zombie horror film World War Z at the same time that local woman Karley Gallagher was holding a fundraiser for the hospital that treated her son.

Brad may not have physically attended the party, but his presence in town certainly stole all of her guests, who wanted to get a sneak peek at the man in action.

The star heard that she was having trouble getting people along to the event, so he sent along a care package containing money from himself and his fellow crew members.

"I was grinning from ear to ear" Karley told the UK's Daily Mail.

"What he did for us was just incredible. It was very generous and a sympathetic gesture from him."

Brad also plays a hero in the film, fighting to survive and protect his family amid zombie mayhem.

Watch him in action in the trailer below.
