A face-painted Johnny Depp leads the action-packed adaptation of Western serial Lone Ranger, also starring Helena Bonham Carter as Red and Armie Hammer as John Reid.

In the trailer, we see Armie’s character John waking up in the desert to find Native American spirit-warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) talking to his horse.

Tonto then explains to John what is happening and why he is here.

A few flashbacks and cryptic clues later, the masked Lone Ranger is revealed.

"There comes a time when good man must wear a mask," Tonto says.

The film is the latest from Jerry Bruckheimer and Gore Verbinski, the team behind Pirates of the Caribbean — and there’s plenty of horse play, train chases, explosions and epic action scenes in store.

The Lone Ranger is set for release in Australian cinemas on July 4, 2013.Vote 'want to see' on MovieBuzz here.
