Disney released plans on Wednesday for two spin-off Star Wars films to accompany Episode VII. These spin-offs are rumoured to be a Boba Fett bounty hunter film and a Han Solo origin story.

"There has been speculation about some stand-alone films that are in development," Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger told CNBC.

"I can confirm to you today that, in fact, we are working on a few stand-alone films."

Bob also mentioned that Mr & Mrs Smith writer Simon Kinberg and The Empire Strikes Back writer Lawrence Kasdan will be working on the films set for release between 2015 and 2021.

JJ Abrams is already confirmed to direct 2015's Episode VII that will be written by Simon, Lawrence and Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt.

A Han Solo saga would focus on Han's origin story somewhere between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Ruling out 70-year-old Harrison Ford in the lead role, unless the Disney special effects department is up for the challenge.

Boba Fett's story would be based on the bounty hunter's adventures sometime between A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

This time period would also allow Darth Vader, Jabba the Hutt and Luke Skywalker to appear in the spin-off films.

No word yet on the status of Yoda, but Aint It Cool and Film School rejects pop culture news sites propose that a Yoda film is first on the billing.

That sounds pretty unlikely to us, but in the words of Yoda, it's "difficult to see… Always in motion is the future."
