Geek icons Doctor Who and Star Trek will appear together in a comic-book crossover that combines the two sci-fi franchises. Settle yourself, nerds.
In an upcoming comic from IDW Publishing, Star Trek's villainous Borg and Doctor Who's equally villainous Daleks will team up to (presumably) assimilate and exterminate the entire universe.
It's lucky the crews of the Enterprise and the TARDIS are around to avert this galactic disaster: Star Trek: The Next Generation's fusspot captain Jean-Luc Picard (played in the TV series by Patrick Stewart) will join forces with the Doctor (Matt Smith, playing the 11th incarnation of the role) to battle this "unholy alliance".
(It would've been even cooler if it was Kirk had teamed up with the 10th Doctor, but you can't have everything.)
"By joining these two sci-fi powerhouses, fans will be taken on the ultimate adventure through time and space," promised a shill representing the corporation that owns Star Trek.
According to Wired, Star Trek characters have appeared in X-Men, Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, but it's the first time Doctor Who has crossed over (unless you count a 1993 charity special that had the Doctor visiting Eastenders).
