In case you missed it last night, Neighbours finally caught up to the 21st century with its first ever guy-on-guy kiss.

Characters Chris Pappas (James Mason) and Aidan Foster (Bob Morley) made soapie history with the gay pash amid a crowded house party on Ramsey Street.

But rather than the dramatic build up you'd expect, the moment comes and goes quite unremarkably and practically happens in the background of the shot.

''It's not sensationalist or token — we are very proud of the way we have done this,'' executive producer Susan Bower told News.com.

The girls did it way back in 2004

The soapie aired its first lesbian kiss in 2004 — drawing backlash from family groups and conservative viewers.

This time around though the response has been mostly positive. In fact — an encouraging sign of the times — there's been hardly any response to it at all.
