Poor Cheryl Cole.

In her first TV appearance since being unceremoniously dumped as an X Factor USA judge by Simon Cowell last year, the 28-year-old ex-Girls Aloud pop diva has been accused of lip-synching after promising she'd sing live on The Voice UK.

Cheryl's high-energy performance of new single 'Call My Name' began with a gasp-inducing three-metre jump off a podium into the arms of a hunky troupe of dancers.

A source at the live taping claimed "it would have been hard for Cheryl to have sung through the whole performance — it was such an energetic dance routine. But I'm sure people will be disappointed if they expected her to sing throughout."

Fans erupted on Twitter, calling it "blatant lip-synching", one pointing out the "irony she's performing on a show that promotes real talent".

Cheryl's publicist insisted that she "sang live with a backing track".

Voice judges Jessie J, Will.i.am, Tom Jones and Danny O'Donoghue gave her a standing ovation. Danny, of band The Script, last week warned Cheryl, "you can't come on The Voice and mime. I won't be clapping if you do".
