Watch: Russell Brand takes on anti-gay Christian church with 'actual gay' ambush

Never one to shy away from controversy, comedian Russell Brand has tackled notoriously homophobic Westboro Baptist Church on his new talk show, Brand X.

Church members Steve Drain and Timothy Phelps, son of Westboro's founder Fred Phelps, presented Rusty with a protest placard reading "Fag pimp Brand".

Then Steve and Timothy are adamant in their viewpoint throughout the interview. "You don't get to define the love of God," Timothy tells Russell.

"Nor do you, though!" Russell replies.

While Russell takes the abrasive interview on the chin, the twist comes when he brings out "actual gay men" — the results of which you can see in the video above.

The stunt has come under fire from fans for being so similar to segments on The Howard Stern Show from the early 2000s, where Stern also confronted the Westboro Baptist Church with a display of gay pride.
