Sometimes the music gene just runs in the family … can the same be said about the X factor?
That was the question fans of The X Factor Australia were asking last night when Georgina Mastin, the sister of 2011 X Factor winner Reece Mastin, auditioned for the Seven talent show.
Georgina, 15, was put through to the next round by judges Dannii Minogue, Ronan Keating and Redfoo after performing Kelly Clarkson's 'Mr Know It All'.
While Redfoo noted some nerves, and Dannii wanted more "pop" in the vocals, all three judges gave her a "yes" for the boot camp, Ronan telling her "you're not just Reece Mastin's sister". Did she deserve the spot? Watch above and decide for yourself.
The British-born Adelaide teen told the judges she wanted to do X Factor "my way, I'm not here to follow Reece". Georgina's audition sparked heated discussions on social media about whether she deserved to go through, with nearly 700 comments and more than 12,000 likes on the show's Facebook page.
"Let's be honest, she only got in because she is Reece's sister. I was there at the live auditions, there were so many more auditions that were better/stronger and the judges said no to them. I'm a fan of Reece but I'm also being honest," wrote one user.
"If you haven't got something nice and positive to say, then don't say anything at all," wrote another. "Would like to see you all get up on stage and see how nervous you all get, before you judge Georgina. I thought she was REALLY good. Good on you Georgina. You are just like your brother in so many ways."
