Seinfeld fans, say a nice, big "welcome back" to Jerry, George and Newman.
Following Jerry Seinfeld's announcement last week of a mystery Seinfeld reunion project, the 51-year-old comedian reunited with former co-stars Jason Alexander and Wayne Knight in a commercial that aired during half-time at the Super Bowl. Watch above!
The ad is for a new six-minute episode of Jerry's web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, titled "The Over-Cheer", now available online. In the clip, Jerry and George end up at their old haunt Tom's Restaurant... only to be met with Jerry's sworn enemy Newman.
"Fox approached [Seinfeld co-creator] Larry [David] and me about doing some kind of Seinfeld reunion for the halftime broadcast because of the New York connection," Jerry said in a statement.
"So we thought throwing Jerry, George, and Newman into a Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was a fun way to do it. Larry and I wrote the script in one sitting, just like old times, and working with him, Jason, and Wayne [Knight] was a total blast as it always was."
However, the commercial was not paid for by Seinfeld or Sony Entertainment. Fox wanted to screen an entertainment feature as part of its half-time program.
The last time we saw the whole cast together was on an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2009. Guys, if you want to invite Kramer (Michael Richards) and Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) next time, we'll be more than happy to watch...
