Aussie rockers Grinspoon have been going strong for 18 years and they're showing no signs of slowing down just yet. Juggling the rock'n'roll lifestyle and babies is a cinch for cool-as-a-cucumber frontman Phil Jamieson.
TheFIX had a chat with Phil about Grinspoon's plans for 2013, his family life, and his beef (or should that be chicken?) with Joel and Benji Madden selling his kids KFC.
Before we get to the finger-lickin' stuff, let's recount what the boys have been up to lately starting with the Big Day Out tour.
"I really was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of people who came to watch Grinspoon because we haven't played for a long time," Phil tells TheFIX.
"Our Sydney crowd was great considering the 46-degree heat. That was a very nice experience for us."
Phil also took part in Big Day Out's charity initiative Rock N Ride for youth mental health awareness foundation headspace, which involved riding a motorbike from the Gold Coast to Adelaide.
"I literally went to a [BDO] gig, played it, and went to an airport, so you know, kind of a rock star lifestyle but I didn't really get to see much," he tells TheFIX.
No rest for the wicked, though. Grinspoon will be back on the road again in March for their Black Rabbits tour, supporting their recent seventh studio album of the same name.
"It'll be a longer set than we've ever done before because we've been around a long time and people want to hear a fair swag of our songs from our career," he said. "This tour is relatively simple, it's only 24 days, it's not like harking back to the tours we used to do that were, like, 90 days long."
Phil, who overcame drug addiction issues in 2007, now lives a happier life with wife Julie and their two kids, seven-year-old Lyla and five-year-old Evita.
"When I do get home [from touring], it really makes me appreciate my home life more and I don't take it for granted as much," he says.
"As a musician, I have to travel, so that's what I do and I'm very fortunate to have this job. So I think my family understands and they allow me to do it."
Speaking of the kids, Phil is troubled by his kids being advertised KFC food by its new celebrity ambassadors, Good Charlotte brothers Joel and Benji Madden.
"I don't really like what the Madden brothers are doing by selling junk food to my children," he says.
"My only question is 'How much money's enough'? It's like Walter White [Bryan Cranston] in Breaking Bad, he's got this pile of money in a storage shed, and you think, 'How much money do you need, buddy?'"
Phil quotes the late cult comedian Bill Hicks: "You do a commercial you're off the artistic roll call forever".
"I don't want to sound like an angry old man here in regards to the Madden brothers, I have an attitude of live and let live, and wish them all the best, because one of them has a young family as well and I completely understand the monetary situations people go through," Phil adds.
Rather ironically, Grinspoon's new single is called 'Branded' but it's not about being "branded", Madden style. One of the Grinners' most radio-friendly tracks in years, 'Branded' tells the story of a high-school love affair in country New South Wales in which a girl is ostracised for falling in love with someone who isn't "part of the in crowd".
